After a bit of digging, it seems the answer is probably along the lines of "yes, if you're prepared to do the work". Backstage uses Sesame via the Sail interface, so it should be possible to write a Sail adapter for MS SQL. A quick search turned up a relativelyl recent answer about built in SQL support which doesn't include MS SQL; http://sesame-general.435816.n3.nabble.com/Setup-process-for-MS-SQL-Server-td3468140.html I also found a couple of messages and an old issue from 2004/2005 that indicated that support used to be there in Sesame1 (Backstage uses Sesame2), but James' response above seems to make it clear that it's no longer present.
