The fact that your self is not independent as in separate, it is also not dependent as in separate. Too many read selflessness from ancient pages and believe it is so, and yet, you cannot be at all except you be the altar of the whole light. It's not that you do not have your own volition, but rather that your volition is all there is or ever will be... Okay, now we're cookin. I've been told by many teachers that I have no
choice, no free will, no volition, and everything happens of it's own accord.
Maybe I've been misunderstanding or listening to outer voices when I should be
listening to the inner one. So, let's try that.
The human does not have an independent self. Ego is a collection of
thoughts that don't even originate from within the human. It's a dream and
nothing can be done from the perspective of the dream in order to cause the
dreamer to awaken. Fine, no problemo.
Where the "I" exists is outside and inside the illusion at once since they
are the same. We'll call this the unmanifest "I". This is what I am. This is
what animates the dream characters from the fragmented parts of it's own
consciousness and experiences the dream and uses it to awaken from the
dream.
Things look very different from the perspective of the unmanifest I. There
is no linear sequence of events occurring and yet there is the experience of
that as my consciousness is narrowed onto the dreamscape. There in no mentation
here and yet there is the illusion of thought as the dream is experienced. There
is no memory here since this implies the contemplation of a temporal sequence
and so this is only experienced by virtue of the dream illusion. Since there is
no mentation or memory here, there is no choosing here and the choosing that is
experienced within the dream is based entirely on the dream content and has no
impact on the dreamer except for one thing.
The dreamer is actually the one choosing in the only way that choice can be
made: from within the dream, under the delusion of it's own self created
illusion. And so, the dreamer does seek awakening from within the dream but
seemingly lacking a full awareness of it's real Self that it wishes to awaken
to.
Hmmm, an interesting game. If this is all so, there is the potential for me
to explore my own dream for clues as to how I might awaken, or at least turn
this into a lucid dream.
