You can use MPW Shell to edit a text file that doesn't fit in memory.
It is the text editor part of Apple's software development suite.

It also has a set of command-line based tools, including 'Search',
'Compare' and 'FileDiv' (a file divider tool). 'Commando' is the
dialog box based interface for those tools.
