Sorry for being cryptic but my memory is a bit fuzzy.

The Unix command line has a split command ... I've used it in the past for what in 
those days were considered huge files but I don't remember what it's called.   If you 
have access to OS/X you can try looking for that program.  You would either "pipe" the 
info into it or provide the file name on the command line, and then give it a 
parameter telling it how many lines go in each output file.

Also you might want to try one of the "tar" utilities for the Mac.  They might have a 
split option.

If BBEdit can't handle it I doubt Tex-Edit could but it might be worth a try.
