I've been wondering about this all damn day. Bill, although it's a little off-topic, can you explain this in more detail? Forgetting SIMS for a moment, and pretending that the extent of my DNS world is my caching nameserver, why do I get only a question response to spamhaus.relays.osirusoft.com, but a question and also an answer to reverse_ip.spamhaus.relays.osirusoft.com? To wit: [jeglin@orion jeglin]$ dig spamhaus.relays.osirusoft.com ; <<>> DiG 9.1.3 <<>> spamhaus.relays.osirusoft.com ;; global options: printcmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 21365 ;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 0 ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;spamhaus.relays.osirusoft.com. Regardless of what Joe Jared does (or I guess -because- of what he does) with his DNS, how does my caching nameserver figure the one out but not the other? I'm assuming the first [non]answer is simply because there is no PTR record. But I thought to even do the second dig, one has to be able to find the first... Confused. (about DNS, which is -not- a first) Stefan Jeglinski ############################################################# This message is sent to you because you are subscribed to the mailing list <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.
