Interesting. I run SIMS from behind a Linksys router (the one with 
the 4-port switch and wireless antennas, cost a pretty penny, but is 
worth every cent) and didn't bother with the DMZ.

Since I have local access to the machine and just needed it 
accessible to the world in case I needed to send mail from elsewhere, 
I just told the router to forward ports 25 and 110 to the box with 
SIMS (i.e. I don't need to change passwords remotely, so I didn't 
open the port). It works flawlessly.

What version of the firmware for your router are you using? If not 
the latest version, considering upgrading -- just get a TFTP client 
(I use MacTFTP) and download the drivers from the Linksys site.
