That's positively too wierd. It looks like Eudora is trying to use a command "XXXX" instead of "EHLO" to start the SMTP conversation. I have no idea why it might be doing that, but I think you should try to get an answer from Qualcomm. Without getting EHLO, SIMS doesn't know to send back the description of what SMTP extensions (like AUTH) that it supports. FWIW, I use Eudora 5.1 all the time with SIMS using AUTH, and have no problems.
