This is just one of those things that's so obvious it's hard to explain to
the suits. The answer is "it just is"

Exchange is just NOTORIUS. That's all.

Aside from the huge waste of man-hours it takes just to sorta run a MS
exchange server, the best you can hope for is a little luck not getting it
hacked.

And licensing for exchange is certainly not free, though the bean counters
have already paid for it so that's a tough sell. However it does seem to
require new hardware everytime a new Microsoft OS comes out.

Go to http://www.kb.cert.org/vuls
And do a search on exchange.

Then try the same search on stalker, SIMS, communigate and see what happens.

Also see http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=exchange+vulnerability

Do you have 6 Middle schools, or 6 Microsoft exchange servers?
CGP doesn't take two accounts for web+pop mail. Does Exchange??

I will testify on your behalf though... We put our small middle school on
it and we've had ZERO issues. It happily runs on the same servers as our web
site and they are both wicked fast.

I also run a small ISP, and I've had 1 serious problem in 3 years. I didn't
understand the OSX (rhapsody) command line very well, and Stalker connected
to the machine and fixed it FOR ME on a Sunday afternoon. I was impressed,
and I still am, our Communigate machine cranks out 9,000,000 emails a month
and the cpu on it's old beige g3 barely peaks at 10% or so, and usually runs
at 1 or 2%. The thing has had zero downtime and hits peaks of 7-800
messages a minute easily without any noticeable lag.
