At 8:47 PM -0700 7/16/02, Brian imposed structure on a stream of
electrons, yielding:
>Hmmm- I just checked and my name server (Mac DNS - running on the

I bet a few people are waiting for yet another of my MacDNS rants,
but I'll keep this one short: MacDNS is garbage and you should not
use it. See the list archives if you want a detailed explanation.
>DOES have an mx record. The IP it resolves to IS my mail server.

probably not. Your name server is a problem:
toaster# dig @204.244.59.132 solutions-consulting.net mx
; <<>> DiG 8.3 <<>> @204.244.59.132 solutions-consulting.net mx

I don't know why it's not telling people about your MX, but it clearly isn't.
It is returning the A record, and that should be enough, but some
places have stupid checks.
