From Bill Cole, received 20/8/03, 12:56 -0400 (GMT):
blackholes.easynet.nl used to include the Spamhaus data, in
addition to their own data. That message was announcing that
Spamhaus was about to cease feeding any external DNSBL operators,
which presumably they have done. I don't know if Steve Linford is
still reading this list, but if he is I hope that he will speak up
 to confirm this.

Yup I'm still here :) Although I mainly use CommuniGate Pro and Postfix these days as we moved all the servers to Mac OS X ages ago (only 2 servers left of OS9 here). But I can't leave the SIMS list, because SIMS was just too good... so I'm going to stay until they turn the lights out.

Yes, on Monday 11 August 2003 we stopped feeding SBL data to both Osirusoft and Easynet. The reason was that we need to better control the data in the SBL zone and the refresh rate of the zone, some people were finding IPs still blocked many hours (and in some cases days) after we said they were unblocked.

Also, since early 2002 we've not really needed any mirrors. The SBL master zone, sbl.spamhaus.org, has 16 heavy-duty servers, all on large pipes, in groups of 4 spread over 4 continents. Each SBL server is handling an average of 150 queries per second with no problems. So there was no need for the zone to be mirrored in 3rd party aggregate zones (except for some query convenience), but what we increasingly found was that the mirroring by 3rd party DNSBLs was causing us problems which we wouldn't have if people simply used the (much faster) master zone sbl.spamhaus.org.
