I seem to have been last subscribed in January of 2000 and I'm running version 1.7 of SIMS, copyright 1997-1998.

Since it passed all the tests about 9 months ago I assume this is a new exploit ?
New as in 1999? 2001? Not very new. Either the test where bad or you didn't pass. This has been an exploit in 1.7 for a long long time. The latest SIMS is pretty bullet proof, even if it's labeled a beta and a dev release.
Other than upgrading to a newer version of SIMS, is there a way to close the hole
