While you do have the math background to understand the AIXI material,
plenty of list members don't. I think Shane's less-technical summary may
be helpful in helping those with less math background to understand what
AIXI and related ideas are all about.
Having talked to Shane about AGI a fair bit, I venture to suggest he does
understand your criticism, but just doesn't agree with all of it....
(I note that I don't fully agree with either you or Shane, but I think I do
understand both of your positions reasonably well.)

Your point is taken: but what I see from my POV is someone who
responded only once to my criticism, and on that occasion all he did was
deliver one personal insult and then withdraw:

Richard's comments, indeed I gave up reading his comments some
time before he got himself banned from sl4, however it seems that you
in principle support what he's saying. I just checked his posts and
can see why they don't make sense, however I know very well that
shouting rather than reasoning on the internet is a waste of time.
Then, after failing to address the criticism itself, he continued to
talk to the list as whole as if ALL criticism was founded on a lack of
understanding of the technical paper.
If he had made a reasonable response to the criticism in the first
place, I would not have found his remarks patronizing, nor suggested
that the real reason was that he did not actually understand the arguments.
