Hello everybody,

Is there a concensus on SIP message to be used for registering /
subscibing for a service (@ Application Server)?
If yes, what is it?

Because, some services require user interaction, and the App.S. may
connect the SIP Phone to the Announcement Server. So using REGISTER
request would not work.

In that case the App.S. needs to initiate an INVITE request, connecting
Ann. S. with the SIP Phone user. Is that the standard way to do it?

SUBSCRIBE / NOTIFY is used for event notification, and so is also not
useful in this case.

Is anybody using INVITE request to register / subscribe for a service?
Because that is how it works in the PSTN world, you make a call to
subscribe for a service, to access the service, and to un-subscribe as
well.

Or everybody is having a web interface?
But then, how will PSTN subscribers be able to access the service?

I hope I haven't missed any draft explaining the same. If yes, do send
me the pointers.

Awaiting response
- Ajit
