Hi All,

I have few questions regarding the delivery of caller's identity.

A UAC sends INVITE with from header as
From: "Anonymous" <sip:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>;tag=9802748

Q1: Does it mean that UAC wants to be unhidden to untrusted SIP nodes or to
the end user (called party ) or all?

all untrusted SIP nodes

Q 2: In case when this INVITE is received with "Privacy: id" header , does
it mean differently?

The first usage is a common but non standard way or achieving what the Privacy header is now defined to do. I think it is an implementation choice to decide whether to treat an anonymous from the same as having "Privacy: id". For example, a proxy adding a P-Asserted-Identity header could add a "Privacy: id" header if it saw that the From was anonymous. This is what I would recommend, however, it just an implementation option as far as I can tell.

Q3: When a caller does not want to reveal his identity to callee, what should he send in INVITE to a trusted (outbond) proxy?

Privacy: id

Q3: When a caller has no problem to reveal his identity to end user, but
does not want it to be seen by untrusted SIP nodes, what should he send?

Privacy: id
If an untrusted entity is encountered along the way, the identity will be hidden from the end user, but if all entities along the way are trusted, the end user will see caller's identity.

Q4: If a proxy gets an INVITE from some other trusted proxy with a From
header (shown above), P-Asserted-Identity header and WITH "Privacy: id"
header , Should he pass P-Asserted-Identity header to called party UA
(trusted to Proxy )?

Yes, if called party is trusted. No, if called party is not trusted.

Q5. If a proxy gets an INVITE from some other trusted proxy with From
Anonymous and P-Asserted-Identity header but WITHOUT "Privacy: id" header ,
Should he pass
P- Asserted-Identity header to SIP UAS(called party)?

Yes, although I think the trusted proxy that added the P-Asserted-Identity should have added a "Privacy: id" header when it added the P-Asserted-Identity due to the From being anonymous, but that is just an implementation choice as far as I can tell.

Charles
