I have a customer running Software Communication System (4.2.1-018892
2010-05-18T20:20:35)

1. Setting the Log Level to INFO does not produce SIP messages in the
logs. Is this the intended configuration?

2..The default setting for MWI for all users results in a cascade of 403
error messages. This issue was reported in Jira XX-8427 and it is my
understanding that this is by design to facilitate configuring voice
mail without having to reboot the phones.

The combination of 1 and 2 results in massive (multi-Gig) log files if
one attempts to run with logging set to DEBUG.

Issue 2 needs to be reconsidered. In a one-minute period when there was
no voice traffic there were 1582 SUBSCRIBEs (26/second) with most
receiving a '403 Forbidden' response. This is having an effect on
performance i.e. slow GUI response and delayed MWI notifications.

As Carolyn says, the SIP messages are logged at INFO level in the latest 4.2
releases.

I can't comment about the strategy of telling the phone to subscribe for MWI
even if it doesn't have a mailbox, as that is not my expertise. But perhaps
the matter should be reviewed.

Please tell us the brand of phone and the firmware version. In any situation,
if a phone's attempt to subscribe to MWI fails, it should wait increasing time
intervals before retrying in order to prevent flooding the system. (MWI
subscriptions can fail for many reasons, and an aggressive retrying system can
prevent the system from recovering from a service outage.) The phone
manufacturer definitely needs to revise the firmware.
