I would think the best approach is that ANY characters in the FAX extension field work EXACTLY like aliases for the USER LINE only those aliases get forwarded to the uri resource in FS for this user... as well as any call for user 200 that identifies itself as a fax call during setup.
Example: LINE 200 DID 2025551212 jdoe salesmanager IF the call is identified as fax during call setup, route to 400 (below) Behavior, voice calls ring phone and if no answer follow the user parameters (call forward, voicemail, etc.). FAX EXTENSION 400 (still user 200) DID 2025551234 salesfax +19194566789 Behavior, DID calls route to FS fax as ~~fx~...@sipdomain Since user 200 has an email address associated with the unified messaging account, it receives the fax and fires off the email with the TIFF of PDF to the user when complete. If the user does not have an email address associated with the account, no faxes will be received.
