Currently we are not facing any troubles with these phones in
production.
Have used Linksys (and now cisco's) for a very long time with asterisk
before.
So I guess and could answer your question with a yes...

But is my understanding correct that all the cisco phone is doing wrong
(presence wise) using the wrong event type?

And is followed by a forbidden...
If Cisco would change "Event: message-summary" to "Event: dialog", would
this solve the issue?
We already are looking into ways on solving this with cisco.

Are you happy with the cisco phones otherwise?  Have you used these
loaded with SIP in production for enough to be able to overlook their
other deficiencies related to SIP support?  I ask because many have
given up on them.
