If utilizing the integrated media server the Unified Communications is simply a .wav file push to an e-mail address with a little twist. What most systems that do this don't have is a way to delete the messages out of your inbox. Embedded in the e-mail sipXecs includes hyperlinks to delete the message out of your voicemail box.
For a true Unified Communications solution sipXecs can utilize Microsoft Exchange Server 2007 as a voicemail server. This delivers a much more rich (and $) unified experience. See Microsoft's site for details on its UM capabilities.
