if there was a way to have an imap server monitor the sipx user
mailstore and correctly interpret the xml files and use the same
credentials (user/pass), this would work across most any system (without
an Exchange server), and would also sync email with phone. Deleting from
one would delete from both, etc.

This would also be smartphone compatible with an imap client monitoring
the mailserver.

If utilizing the integrated media server the Unified Communications is
simply a .wav file push to an e-mail address with a little twist.  What
most systems that do this don't have is a way to delete the messages out
of your inbox.  Embedded in the e-mail sipXecs includes hyperlinks to
delete the message out of your voicemail box.

For a true Unified Communications solution sipXecs can utilize Microsoft
Exchange Server 2007 as a voicemail server.  This delivers a much more
rich (and $) unified experience.  See Microsoft's site for details on
its UM capabilities.
