An update.

I ran wireshark to see what's happening with SIP registration messages and
it turned out that the phone is trying to register with a different IP
Address than the sipX server address.

When I go into the following menue->status-> Lines->Servers Status it shows
me a different IP address than the sipX address with an asterisk next to it.

why would the phone do that? I have reset the phone to factory settings and
still that IP address is being used..

Subject: Registration Prooblems

Hi All,

I am having problems getting the simplest of tasks to work properly so that
I can at least move on to next steps. I can't get my Polycom Soundpoint 320
to register to my sipX server.

My setup:

1- The server, I installed my server using the Centos ISO CD (version
3.11.4). I set it up as NON HA running all services (DNS, DHCP, NTP). During
setup I have chosen to enter only my domain name under "SIP Domain Name" and
NOT my Host name, which I believe makes for DNS SRV record.

2- The configuration, I have created a new user (200) with all the
default settings, nothing special. Then I added the polycom 320 phone using
the drop down list, I entered the MAC address of the phone etc... Then I
added a Line which is the only user I created (200). I made sure to "Send
Profile" after I finished.

3- The phone, I am using a new Polycom Soundpoint 320

4- The network, I have both my phone and my server connected to a cisco
2950 switch (all on the same VLAN)

What happens:

1- I connected the phone to the switch and powered on. The phone
received an IP address from the server and also received the profile, hence
the number (200) was showing on the screen and also the correct date/time.
This all means that DHCP server is working fine.

2- NO REGISTRATION, the phone never registers to the server NEVER, no
matter what I did.

What have I done:

1- When I was faced with this problem, I ran the script
/usr/bin/sipx_reset_cd and changed the "SIP Domain Name" to hostname rather
than Domain name.

2- Resent the phone profile again and rebooted the phone. NOTHING
HAPPENED.

I kind of have a feeling that this is due to DNS.

What am I doing wrong?

Is there any way to disable DNS and test using IP address?

Your help is appreciated.

Thanks

Yakout
