http://wiki.sipfoundry.org/display/xecsuser/Polycom I'm starting the wiki page on what Polycom phones work with sipXecs and their respective sidecars. The page isn't finished and I botched the firmware/bootrom portion, but the model guide at the top is complete.

I'm going to order a sidecar for a 550 (assuming I can find one). All
the ones I have found so far don't list the 550, but I clearly see a
slot on the side for something. I hadn't played with this feature yet.
I just made our main admin assistants day since she can see if our
executives are on the phone now.

The right side of the body is molded so the body of the sidecar can
slide down around it in a lock-and-key manner. But that isn't what
determines if the particular phone body can take a sidecar. Instead,
look for a little slot through the plastic at the "top" of the right
side. That slot is where the sidecar inserts a tongue that mates with
an electrical connector inside the phone body. If the body doesn't have
a sidecar installed, that slot is usually covered by a specially shaped
rubber insert/plug.
