Shared line has a limit of how many extensions can have the line
(somewhere in the 20's if I recall correctly) and each line requires a
line appearance on the phone. I have 2 departments that managed to
scale a Norstar to ~70 extensions and something like 12 analog lines
which makes using the Shared Line feature impossible as I would have to
have a $400+ set at each desk (650 plus sidecar) to see all the lines
plus there are technical limitations to the SLA engine. SLA is really good for replacing small key systems with a max of 5 lines but it doesn't scale well. The front desk operator receives a call, places it on hold and pages(ewww!!) the desired party telling them to "pick up line 1" at which point the party the call is destined for presses the "Line 1" key and begins talking. |
