I have been testing sipXecs for a month or two, and found it to
generally work really well. The one thing that has held me back from
dumping my POTS line though is that every few days the service becomes
unresponsive. What I mean is that my Polycom phone loses its
registration, and none of the software clients that I use can connect
either (Linphone, 3CX on Android, nor Twinkle or Ekiga on Linux, nor SIP
Communicator on Mac). During this time, if I do:

     /etc/init.d/sipxecs status

it reports back "[OK]". If I run top, it shows about the same as when
everything is working fine. If I use the web config interface, nothing
looks askew. If I then do a service restart, all is good again.

I'm running on 64 bit CentOS, 4 GB RAM, not very much load. The sipXecs
server sits behind my commercial (Cisco/Linksys) firewall.

Any ideas regarding what could cause this?

NEW users seem to have this problem. When we were setting sipx up for the first time, changing users, changing ITSP gateways, changing options, re configuring phones we needed to do this a lot.

it seems the more you use the GUI, the less responsive the system (yes, even to point that MOH and IVR stopped working).

Once you get the system stable, things seem to settle down.
