Tony,

I looked around the wiki and couldn't find anything about split-horizon DNS, but I did find one about DNS views. Configuring the ACLs is easy enough, but I can't figure out how to get it to forward on failure.

The issue will be that if I create a "ourdomain.com" zone, and populate it with a limited set of internal IPs only needed for SipX, queries for things like "www.ourdomain.com" will fail. Obviously, we do not want to maintain records in two places so a zone transfer setup would be in order... I know that I can make the zone transfer unidirectional, but I am not sure how to keep the public records from overwriting the internal records.

Thoughts? Your expertise on the matter is greatly appreciated!

The wiki has a really good article on this.

Your terminology lends some confusion though and the "zone" for "pbx.ourdomain.com <http://pbx.ourdomain.com>" IS our ourdomain.com <http://ourdomain.com>.

Unless you are using a sub domain. There is a good wiki article on that too.

In either case this is called split DNS and is pretty straightforward as long as your external DNS provider supports the needed record types.
