I'm pretty clear if you use voip.ms you need to specify cnam
whether you are porting or not.
Sipx will nor send cnam through the pstn. The carrier has to be
in charge of that.
I am saying if you are calling from a voip.ms trunk
to another voip.ms
subscriber it shows the sipx cnam because they DO allow that.
I.e. you call me from voip.ms it shows me your internal
name/line like an internal call.
The number in question
was a DID that I purchased for testing. When I talked to
them they said the carrier for that number does not support
CNAM so they can not change it to anything else, but they
could blank it out. I do not understand why they can remove
it, but not set it to something else, but I don't really
care. We are actually going to keep this number so I just
want to make sure it does display the wrong company name.
I also asked them to verify if they could port all our
existing numbers and if CNAM was available for those numbers
and they said yes for both.
So Tony, are you saying that it doesn't matter if the
carrier supports CNAM or not because they can not send they
name over the PSTN?
Is this a voip.ms limitation or a voip/sip
limitation?

None of this matters. You can't send
callerid name on PSTN calls witht hem, unless it is to
other voip.ms customers, at which point it
sends the line subscriber name, not the trunk name.
It means when you ported the number to voip.ms you didn't check the box
to specify callerid name so they will require you to
"re-port" the number (additional fees apply) to get rid
of the low cost no-name provider they ported you to when
you did the original port.

OK, I
understand. I see the name in the voip.ms CDR. I'll contact
voip.ms to change the
display name.
Thanks,

I'm using voip.ms for
my ITSP. In the gateway settings I
have "Specifiy
Caller ID" checked and the 1+10
digit number in the "Caller ID"
field
and 'Datatek Ink' in the "Display
name" field. The correct number is
displaying, but the display name
for the caller id is coming across
as
'Starnet Inc ra'.
Starnet Inc is a voip provider in
Raleigh, NC. My guess is that voip.ms
either bought some numbers from
them or is using them as part of
their
network.
Anyway, is there a way to have the
right display name?
