3CX released an update about a week ago that for the very first
time allowed it to work with a PBX that isn't visible from the
Internet.
A lot of the confusion on all sides was due to it it being
completely broken. Now so long as you turn of STUN it should
configure in pretty much the same way as you would expect.
Considering it's poor history though I would generally recommend
almost anything else in preference to it.

Well, I'd still like to get the 3CX iphone client working, but I
downloaded Media5Fone and was able to get it registered and
working in a matter of minutes over both wifi and 3G.

Beat me up all you want, I can take it.
Here are the 3CX iphone app settings. The items in () are my
values.
Account
Name: (Test)
Display Name: (blank)
Credentials
User: (195)
ID: (195)
Password: (PIN for 195)
Server Settings
I'm out of Office [ON/OFF]: (OFF) - should use local
settings
Local PBX IP: (sipX server IP) also tried (sipX server
hostname) also tried (sip domain)
External PBX IP: (WAN IP)
PBX Port: (5060)
STUN Server: (blank)
Proxy: (WAN IP)
Network
Local SIP Port: (blank)
First RTP port: (30000)
TCP transport [ON/OFF]: (OFF)
NAT Helper [ON/OFF]: (OFF)
I'm just trying to put the right values in to get it to connect
to sipX.
sipXecs likes to do things by DNS... Don't mess with
IP's... learn about SRV records....

What
are the settings to get the 3CX softphone
working with sipX? Tony, you mention it
here and I see that it is listed as a
supported softphone on the wiki:
The iphone is connected via wifi on the
local network. I added a Bria device,
added a user to it and clicked send
profile. In the 3CX app I have the user
entered as both User and ID and the PIN as
the password. I've entered the IP of the
sipX server as the local PBX IP and the
WAN IP as the External PBX IP. PBX port is
5060. STUN is blank and Proxy is set to
the sipX server IP (I also tried the WAN
IP). Local SIP port is blank and First RTP
port is set to 30000. TCP transport is
Off, but I've tried On also.
I'm running sipX 4.4.

In your case I
would test coverage with "any" app,
besides counterpath, you can try the
free 3cx (Android and iOS) app and
others. The biggest thing you will
find with wifi -- battery
life/talktime (especially when
received wifi signals are weak),
don't hold up nearly as long as
DECT. So your wifi deployment,
coverage has a lot to do with
battery life and talktime.

Hi Tony,
We are looking at outdoor
coverage but with a lot of
trees and vegetation.
Considering your
response it shows that
things have changed in
recent years too…
We do also have large
wifi coverage already and
are constantly increasing
it. In the past it seemed
that wifi was considered
universally terrible. Has
that changed?
And are there any good
smartphone apps? I guess it
would be Android rather than
iPhone since it is possible
to get reasonable Android
handsets cheaply on prepaid
plans and then don't use the
cellular side at all. But
for those of us with
existing iPhones is there
any recommended apps?

You need to explain
what kind of
coverage you need
and what kind of
wireless
infrastructure you
have (if any).
Snom makes a dect
phone which also has
wireless repeaters
and should work
fine. The battery
life and talk time
is very good and
does not interfere
with wifi at all.
If you have a wifi

could opt for an app

Just a
query to see
what the
current

We probably
need 2-3
phones fairly
soon that can
transfer

would be nice
(but not
immediately

have the

Of course this

I know this
has been asked
before but a
lot can change
