Both your "belief" and conclusions are clearly incorrect. You haven't
yet talked with a kernel developer.
You've declared your solution as the only valid implementation of
"--confighw". Multiple alternate implementations exist that do not
break valid configurations, many also allow you to maintain your
"investment."
But, this is also clearly a dead issue. I'm sorry to have wasted
everyone's time...
