I'm not sure what to patch.  The cciss module is actually there in the standard 
i386 boot image as a module, it just needs to be automatically loaded if there 
is a controller present.  Otherwise it can be compiled into the kernel by 
changing the answer under Device Drivers ---> Block devices ---> Compaq Smart 
Array 5xxx support  from "m" to "y"    Note that this module does support the 
5i and the very latest 6i controllers on the Proliants.
