African Liberation Day Conference, May 22-24 2009 March 23, 2009 Re: Request for your participation for planned African Liberation Day Conference May 22-24 2009 in Washington, DC. This year, the Uhuru Movement will be taking ALD events to new levels by hosting our 1st African Socialist International (ASI) regional conference in North America. This is a very special undertaking as it is part of a global effort to unify the African working class all over the world. Our first ASI regional conference was in October 2008 in Sierra Leone, West Africa with over 500 African organizations in attendance and we are soon to have an East African regional conference this March. This years theme is, “One Africa! One Nation! Separated by Colonial Slavery Re-united by Revolutionary Resistance”. ALD/ASI will consist of a three day event the weekend of May 22nd - 24th, 2009. During this weekend, we will be hosting an African Attire Banquet (Friday Night) and a two day conference (Saturday and Sunday). The African Internationalist Student Organization (AISO), the student wing of the African Peoples Socialist Party (APSP), is calling on all student organizations and groups for African people to participate in this year ‘s ALD events. Our goal is to make the theme of this year’s ALD come to life on the campus! If we are to achieve true education through liberation we must build African Liberation Day. Our goal is to have the entire African community represented: from workers to intellectuals and from prisoners to students. Currently, we are organizing throughout North America to help organize and mobilize students to attend ALD 2009. We have local ALD committees in numerous cities including NYC, Philly, DC, Toronto, Memphis, St, Petersburg, FL and Oakland, CA – all of whom are organizing bus-loads of Africans to attend the ALD. There are a variety of ways to get involved in your city. But we are primarily calling on all BSA’s, ASA’s and other African organizations on the campuses to join in the process of building African Liberation Day. Practically, this means forming sub-committees within your organization as well as building pre-ALD events such as rallies, meetings and parties on and off the campus. We are also looking for students with skills in web design, fundraising and writing. There are many ways to get involved! AISO is seeking students who are committed to the freedom of African people to join us as we build for ALD throughout North America! It would be great if you and the organization you represent can join the effort to organize and mobilize students to participate in this historic conference. For more information about the Uhuru Movement and the ASI you will find attached the ALD Student Package which includes: ASI Main Resolution ALD flyer Sponsorship Vendors Information Package and: ALD Registration form We also have a student nationwide organizing conference call every Monday at 9:30pm EST. It would be great if at least one person from your organization would participate in the conference call. If you would like to discuss details of your organizations participation in this year's ALD please contact Raheal Rayza, National Student Organizer.
