Huh. I switched to utf-8 because of this http://lists.apple.com/archives/xcode-users/2011/Sep/msg00189.html and also because utf-8 plays better with localizers and is diffable in subversion. I had problems with translators screwing up the UTF-16 BE/LE, and it was a mess.
