I'm pretty sure it's a bug in Apple's font handling. This apparently has had a rather big makeover in Leopard. Some googling reveal that problems abound. Unfortunately this would mean that we (or you) cannot fix this, and just have to wait for Apple to fix it in some system update. Hopefully soon. I filed a bug report with Apple, but I expect they will close it as a duplicate.
