I'm a big fan of the proxy icon method that James described--just
drag the proxy icon to the Mail icon on the Dock, no Exposé or fancy
fingerwork needed. But, if you want a script version, here's an
Applescript will send the frontmost Skim document file to a new Mail
message. Save it to your ~/Library/Scripts/Applications/Skim folder
then use the Scripts menu or something like FastScripts to activate
it. It does not include any error checking (e.g. that Skim actually
has a file open, etc.) I'll have to dig into Skim's dictionary to
see if I can send it as an archive as Christiaan has noted -- that's
an even better idea because then notes would get preserved.
Cheers,
--Rhet
--begin "send Skim PDF to Mail"
--Save this as an applescript using Script Editor in your ~/Library/
Scripts/Applications/Skim/ folder
set theFile to ""
set theName to ""
tell application "Skim"
set theFile to file of document 1
set theName to name of document 1
end tell
tell application "Finder" to set fp to POSIX path of theFile
tell application "Mail"
activate
set msg to make new outgoing message with properties
{subject:theName, visible:true}
tell msg's content
make new attachment at after last paragraph with properties {file
name:fp}
end tell
end tell
--end "send Skim PDF to Mail"

Good tip. I'm still greedy for the "Mail Document" feature, since i
hate using the mouse and clicking and dragging. Also this tip would
not be so useful in full screen mode, which I love to use in Skim.
But these two tips definitely help. Thanks!

I have some local changes to send an archive of the pdf to Mail, which
also has the advantage that it preserve notes. It won't be released
soon though probably. An other way is to use AppleScript (any
implementation would be based on AppleScript anyway). You could google
a bit to find scripts to compose a message using AppleScript (or look
in the current Skim source code in SKPDFDocument).
