It helped. Now everything seems to be OK.
that all that went wrong in your case was that you
accidentally dropped the installation file (the volume that needs to
be mounted and that contains Skim and the link to Applications) into
your Applications folder and this now creates confusion.
I guess, you're right.

only need to clear up a little bit. Make sure that you have in your
applications folder the actual Skim program (the one with glasses
which starts Skim). Then you can safely remove all other Skim files in

(Apple key on the keyboard together with letter i). This will bring up
the Info window. Here you can see as the very first entry what kind of

Note that this installation routine is the standard way of installing
on Mac OS X.

on July 20th I downloaded SKIM and I've worked with it since then.
But my installation process seems to been wrong.
After downloading and installing I was told to drag the icon into
the programs section.
This I've done.
Now I have among the programs two entries:
1) Skim with glasses. Skim doesn't start with this one.
2) Skim with an icon like a disc. It again has 2 entries:
"Applications folder" + Skim with glasses
3) I still have the SKIM Icon (like a disc) among the disc icons on
my desktop. When I throw it in the wastebasket I have to install
Skim anew.
To put it right: Skim is working as I assume it to. No problems so
far.
But: How do I install Skim correctly, so it will be only once in my
programs folder? And so I can throw away the installation icon?
