Yes, it reports the line style of the new note. The line style for a new note 
is determined by your preferences, NOT by whatever arbitrary settings you may 
have in the Lines panel (which you may not even have shown.) You can use the 
Lines panel to /inspect/ the current line settings, or to /change/ the line 
settings of the selected note.
