SAO? That's a star catalog. I think you mean the SAC (Saguaro Astronomy
Club), which is a collection of interesting deep-sky objects from many catalogs

Yes, but only once. There are so many possible catalogs that the program
doesn't assume you want all of them to be active every time you use the
program, unless you "save" the option to use that catalog.
Once you get the basics set up the way you want, check the "don't ask again"
box when the "save options" box opens when shutting down. After that, if you
want to save a new change, click preferences>save options. Note this will save
_all_ current settings, so be careful how you use this.
A few features have their own "save options" button in the relevant window.
If you want to bring back the "save options" window when shutting down, click
preferences>"ask confirmation before to exit".
