Hello makronti,
you are quite right, it works as described in CdC rel. 2.76 (which I use
on my "regular" PC), but I have just tested in rel. 3 (under Debian) and
found, that it does not work.
How to create a catalogue with a .hdr (based on the Debian version,
example Messier):
00. Place the text file messier.dat some place where you can find it
again ,-)
01. Open the text file messier.dat in a non-locking ASCII-editor (e.g.
notepad) or tiny or whichever you prefer
01.1. to check that it is aligned in coloumns
01.2. note (keep your editor open) which seemingly numeric fields
actually also contain alphabetic characters (e.g. an A).
01.3. Edit as required - or mark all optional fields as alpha (string
#), the latter is always *the best solution if *you don't have to
perform calculations on the field.
02. Setup
03. catalog
04. catgen
05. Select Deep Sky or other objects
06. Catalog short name (e.g.): Mes2
07. Catalog long name (e.g.): Messier
08. Input Catalog files: messier.dat
09. Output (bin or text) as you please
10. Next>>
11. Object type "unknow" (no 'n')
12. As for the rest select as you please
13. Next>>
14. Select RA hours
15. Mark the position of RA hours on the ruler
16-23. continue with RA minutes, DEC sign, DEC degrees, and string 1
(pos 21 through 40)
24. Next>>
25. 50 files
+ create search index
+ prefix alternate name w/ label
+ Select Output Directory x:\Program Files\ciel\cat\externes\messier (or
/usr/share/apps/skychart/cat/externes/messier) or whatever you please
26. *Save project!!!* (you may need to make corrections several times
over =-O ).
27. Did you remember to save the project? If not, then do it now.
28. Build Catalog
29. Install the catalog in CdC
If you find any errors in the above, fix them and report.
