After my observation a few days ago that Skypewatch doesn't work so well in
Skype 4.0 as it did in Skype 3.8, I have installed SKRead, which works well
with my Skype 4 and my JAWS 6.20 on a computer with Windows XP.
For the information of those who aren't familiar with it, SKRead gives you lots
of information about Skype events. Some of this info is given by Skypewatch
with Skype 3.8, such as notifications when a contact comes online or the name
of the contact who is calling you when your Skype rings, but SKRead can also
give you extra info, for example which contacts have birthdays in the coming
two weeks. The info is read by the computer's default Sapi 5 text-to-speech
voice, or you can set up another Sapi 5 voice for SKRead if you don't want to
use the default one. I can personally recommend SKRead for Skype 4 users, or
for users of earlier versions of Skype who have difficulties installing
Skypewatch. But no way would I foerce anyone to use it if they don't want to,
much as I like it myself! (Smile).
Unfortunately, I can't remember the name or the address of the website I got
SKRead from, though, because I simply typed "SKRead" into a popular search
engine and then found the download page among the results that came up. But if
anyone wants to get SKRead, I'm sure there must be someone out there who can
provide the necessary web address.
As usual, I leave it to each reader of this message to decide whether they want
SKRead, if they don't have it already, but I can certainly recommend it!
