it's all very nice having these scripts and things and we really appreciate
you doing this for us
however i am afraid when it comes to installing and updating things like
scripts and things i am a complete novice
i am totally unable to follow how to do all of this
that is why i ask so much for step by step guidance
i find it too difficult to update and install the latest scripts and things
i only wish someone could help me by being here or talking me through it
over skype
by the way i have skype talking but not sure if it is set up configured or
installed correctly
for a start it does not always start when i start skype
i have to go to programs and skype talking
select from the drop down menu then jaws speaks all my contacts and who is
on and offline
is skype talking set up and configured correctly or is there something i
have not done that i should of or something i have done that i should not of
and do i need scripts with skype talking?
also how can i remove entries from the recently closed conversations

Not a scriptor here but what about incorporating your first 2 options
into an option on the verbosity list as a toggle. I am not up enough on
JAWS scripting to know how this is done, and from the functionality of
your
scripts over their progression, I would say that you have grasped the
know-how on how to do this, if it is possible! The numbering issue is no
big deal to me, however, this may become a confusion point for the
beginner...just my two cents.

It's a tough call. I've laid this out before but maybe across more
than one messsage, so I'll do it again here and see what people think.
Without Skype changing something, we have three choices. I will
outline them below, but keep in mind that, when I refer to "lists,"
they include contacts, conversations, and history. I can not reliably
tell which one is active, so any of the below choices will necessarily
apply to them all.
1. Report an accurate count of list entries. This can be done but
will be slow on moderately large lists. This means, for example, that
it could take a second or more per arrow key in history or a large
contact list. I now use a fast machine, and in a contact list of
178 entries, it does take about one second from when I hit an arrow,
PageUp/Down, Home, or End key until I get a response. During that
time, my machine is busy enough to concern me that it might impair
call quality. This is if I run code that will provide an accurate
list count in the cases I've seen. I just did that test now while
writing this, using JAWS 11 latest release and Skype 4.2.0.163. The
time taken should grow linearly, so a history list with 1000 items
should take over five seconds per keystroke on this machine.
2. Avoid reporting counts altogether. This avoids confusion but
deprives us of even a ballpark figure on how big a list is.
Personally, I strongly prefer having some general idea over having
none at all.
3. Leave things as they are. I've done this so far because it's the
fastest, performancewise, and still gives us an idea of how many items
are in a list.
The lists reorganize themselves as you move through them, so solutions
I usually use, like counting the buttons and subtracting them from the
rest, still would require me to examine all items each time you hit an
arrow key. The Skype API does not even solve this problem, because
although it can count contacts, I'm not sure it can count history or
conversation list items, and in any case it can't tell whether you
have, for example, hidden offline contacts or contacts not sharing
details, etc.
Finally, I have considered adding the word "about" to the counts, for
example, "5 of about 25." This still wouldn't fix the fact that "5"
itself may be wrong, and any language that tries to address that
would, in my opinion, add more wordiness than clarity. :)
So the plan currently remains to stay with option 3, unless someone,
or someones, convince me otherwise. I'm not trying to be stubborn
here; I just think it's the best option we have, and absent proof to
the contrary, I think I've made a good case for it. I actually tried
some tricks this morning to get a faster result without sacrificing
accuracy, by making JAWS do some of the calculating internally instead
of leaving it to a script, but to my surprise, it wasn't any faster
that way either.

as far as your index issue this is a Skype thing. your not missing
anything Skype is just reporting the wrong index count. once again
Doug if there is no way to get index counts right this really should

i managed to do what jinn said and for a while i read voicemail on
the computer
today not so lucky
when i press control 5 it said window not visible or something like that
also i found 2 contacts in conversations and it said 5 and 6 of 7
i cant find the other 5 any idea where they would be?
also how do i remove someone from recently closed conversations?
one last thing for now why cant i delete history it says save
history for 14 days surely after 14 days the history should delete
automatically
