Under Skype 5.0 beta 2, SkypeWatch will announce birthdays, including whose birthday it is. That also means you can review the SkypeWatch notifications to repeat whose birthday it is: Either press Alt+Shift+F9 to repeat the most recent SkypeWatch notification, or use the Skype Command Key system to review up to the last ten notifications, by pressing your Skype Command key (usually the left bracket ([)), then the letter n, and then digits 1 through 9 and 0 to check the last notifications as you wish, and finally Esc to exit the key sequence and return to whatever application
And yes, birthday notifications also appear in their corresponding chat windows as empty messages for some reason, so usually if you see a completely empty chat line, it's a birthday for that person.
