Michael, I don't mean to contradict you here but like Marius, I have tried it. I logged out of my account so I was on skype not signed in, just like someone who has no account yet and was able to download skype successfully. So there is no need to have an account to be able to download skype. Like I said, I signed out so I can confirm what Marius and others have said here.
