I don't use windows, and for the mac I use audio hijack to record my skype 
calls and everything else for that matter.  For audacity to work, you need 
another external sound card to which you can route skype to like a virtual 
audio cable so you don't hear looping back. Set that virtual audio cable to 
skype's output and audacity to the input of said virtual audio cable, and 
then set another audio cable to capture the mic in the same way. Set the 
mic's input to the VAC and away you should be able to go. I think a piece of 
software like call burner or that free one suggested is a lot easier to use 
lol!

Oh wow, sad, as it used to work very well with jfw. I remember years ago 
that program was recommended and we used it to record a staff meeting that 
took place. on our now debunked and disbanded station. The call quality 
and the sound of the file was pretty good and useful for all that were not 
present for the meeting. Any other free solutions out there for windows? I 
remember call burner but that was not free, but still a good piece of 
software.

Your question is certainly a sensible one. Here's what's happening
though:

When you make a call, the contact you're calling moves out of yoyur 
contact/conversation list and up above it into a separate list for active 
calls. Focus, however, does not follow this, so it lands on your next 
contact, and causes the speech you're hearing.

So I would say, if it's a bug, the bug is that Skype does not keep focus 
on the contact you're calling.
