I looked again and do not see any way to avoid entering or setting up a Microsoft account in the Windows 8.1 Skype app. If you know a way, please provide the exact steps you used. I see a startup screen asking me to set up a Microsoft account. I click the link for signing in to each app separately (which says "not recommended"), and I get a second screen asking for my email and password, but also asserting that this is for setting up a Microsoft account. It looks like entering this information there would link my email and password to a Microsoft account, which at this time is not something I want to do.
