I set it up when I was setting up the computer for the first time. But I believe I either found the way around it there or I simply went to skype and downloaded skype even though it was already on the compter and set it up as part of the installation process. I've also helped two other folks set up their new computers with 8.1 on them and we were able to bypass the Microsoft thing. Try going to skype and downloading skype as if it weren't on the computer and follow the set up process. I know it can be done because I've done it several times now, but I can't really duplicate my steps at this point since it's already done. I wish I could be more specific. I think the downloading and installing should work though. Denise
