It is indeed best to install Skype and then make your modifications. The Use
lines at the top should be all
that matter to Skypewatch in most cases, so you can add code below those as
needed. For any sizeable addition
though, I strongly recommend putting your code in a separate file and then
adding a Use line for that file to
load it. This has the added benefit of allowing quick solutions to event
chaining problems if they occur.

I do not use the compatibility option in JAWS 17 at this time, because I think
that would break non-English
installations' use of built-in JAWS messages. I honestly don't have a clear
idea of how best to handle
translation of the Skype scripts under JAWS 17 yet.

   I've discovered that if I have a copy of Default.jss and Default.jsb
(that is, a personally modified version of the default scripts) in my
shared files folder that the JAWS scripts for Skype won't install
   correctly. Here are my questions:

   1. I want to modify Default.jss: how can I accomplish this and still
get the Skype scripts to install properly? I assume that I need to
install the Skype scripts first, then make my alterations to
Default.jss, but how to recompile *that* and have everything work
   properly?

   2. When I install the Skype scripts to JAWS 16 when I have JAWS 17
installed, are the Skype scripts compiled with the Compatibility option
that was introduced into the compiler with JAWS 17? If not, should I
recompile these manually using that option? I assume that the
SCompile.exe file that's shipped with JAWS 17 and that supports the
compatibility option is used for all Skype script compilations, which
   is why I ask.
