I don't know if this is really the same topic than yours, but I was thinking along these lines in these days, and since you mentioned Camera and Joystick ..
I love using the SpaceNavigator device in Flycam Mode. It lets you visit virtual environments in such a smooth way - keyboard-mouse combos don't allow that. I think that many Second Life users would benefit from using it, and that it's even easier to use than Alt-Zoom - but admittely, I'm a geek and not an average user, so I may be too enthusiasthic. A problem I found is that if I want to see a whole region with the Flycam, I have to move around my avatar too, because Draw Distance starts from the avatar's position - not the camera's one (I may be wrong about this. However this is my feeling and also I think this has been mentioned somewhere recently - maybe during an Office Hour, or on a mailing list) I mean that, even if you raise Draw Distance to 512m and you wait some minutes so that stuff loads, when the camera is far from your avatar many objects won't be drawn (until you move your avatar nearly enough to the camera). (Maybe object occlusion too has a role here? I didn't thought about this until right now) Having objects loading according to the position of the camera instead of the position of the avatar would noticeably improve the Flycam experience. I'm sure that machinima creators that use Flycam would be happy about this. So I'm asking to Linden Lab - would be this a reasonable feature / a feasible project? Is it worthwhile to open a ticket on PJIRA about this? or you can already tell me that this is not going to happen?
