About this, I thought that "Attic", as a name, is a bad idea
because
that conflicts with the "CVS attic" directory. I would
suggest to rename it to "scratchpad" or "whiteboard" as it's
done in many other ASF projects.

In what respect does it conflict with the CVS attic? I thought it would be a nice name as for CVS users it might be "speaking".

Other opinions?

The first time Oliver proposed "Attic" I was astonished. I would prefer "scratchpad" too. The recognition when knowing other Apache projects would be higher. Attic could cause confusion with the CVS terminology.

-1 to "attic" as well.

using attic is confusing and could also be problematic as CVS uses it for its day to day operation.

There is a reason why no other project in the ASF uses that. Ignoring this isn't really polite, IMO.
