1 still with the ServletFilter we Do we need out of the box build with tomcat or not ? I'm still thinking about end user.

We are doing authentication on the back end of slide with an LDAP server. This is running with the old 1.0.16 release (this due to a mad developer) and basically I have to port it somehow to the new 2.0.0 world (I don't even know whether this has already been done by somebody else) and then have to share it with you all.
My users will not be defined in the container, I don't want that !

No, but this would have to be configured differently for different servlet containers anyway. If you want that to work out of the box you could consider a ServletFilter as an alternative. It would have the added advantage of being container independent.
