I am talking about webfolders!

As I can see there is one big difference between XP and 2000! Webfolders in
XP will convert to UTF8 before uploading and 2000 will escape in local
character set!

This is why I think a check on encoding before accepting a PUT would be
necessary in the slide server!

So are you talking about Webfolders or the WebDAV redirector? Note that 
XP has two different clients, with completely distinct sets ofg bugs. 
The webfolders should work just as in Windows 2000-

Some Webfolder versions try to use the displayname. This is currently 
being removed again because it doesn't work (for instance, the client is 
issueing MOVEs against the URI of the parent collection + the displayname).
