People DO keep pressing for the second head on the G400, but
the head developers keep saying the same things (should be in FAQ).
The non-technical, summarised version: The second head is technically
deficient, and does not have the required hardware resources to run
an X server. Making it work would be an ugly kludge that would
require stuuf that would break other (better) cards. If you actually NEED
multi-head support, buy one of the G200 multi-head cards. At best
the G400's 2nd head can only do 1024 x 768 at 75 Hz anyway.
IE the second head on a G400 is a hack. A nice hack, but not a
proper video card, and the work required to make it work is not going
to come from the core XF team. When the details are explained
to G400 owners on the [EMAIL PROTECTED] list they seem to lose their
enthusiasm for developing the driver on their own.
My 0.02 cents from making the same decision you are faced with:
Cheap: buy a TNT2 [ultra]
$$$: Buy Geforce
wait: buy Voodoo 4 or 5
M$: buy a G400 (but what are you doing on this list?)
