Sendmail gurus..... I have noticed the following at my work and am wondering if there is a fix, or at least a work around that can be implemented. Symptoms 1. Sendmail 8.9.3 queues mail on our Internet gateway with no problems. 2. Occasionally (1 a week) a mail message (varying sizes from 1 kB to man Mbs) that is outbound will spawn the sendmail process correctly. 3. This process will then just sit there and do nothing until noticed by 1 of my admin staff (Could be days later - always the same process-id usually with 0 sec CPU time) What I have noticed. 1. The send of the mail message is never retried, hence it is never dequeued by sendmail after our 2 day timeout period and reported back to the original sender. 2. If we *kill* the sendmail process handling this mail item, it is requeued and is sent correctly in a matter of seconds. 3. A *mailq* reports that the mail item is locked, which I would expect, but no error is ever shown on *mailq* 4. sendmail log show the start of the transaction for this message, at the time of initial process start, but no other activity is logged. 5. It only affects outbound mail to the net. Mail coming in from the net is directed always to our final server(s) correctly. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
